Log Cabin Design
One of the most basic of quilt designs, the Log Cabin might have first come to America sometime around 1869. However, it is much older than that. It was known in Europe as a design technique-- not necessarily in quilting at first-- since the early 1700's. Yet it is still older. When the British started opening Egyptian tombs in the latter half of the 19th century, they found mummified cats, designed to be their master's companions in the afterlife. They are wrapped in-- you guessed it-- a distinct Log Cabin design.
